The insert carries a multilayer MTCVD coating sequence of TiN, TiCN, and Al2O3, targeting moderate to high wear resistance with sufficient toughness for interrupted and continuous cuts in steel and stainless steel. With a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.2500-inch corner radius, and 8 usable cutting edges, this insert delivers a high edge count per unit, keeping tooling cost per edge competitive in high-volume turning cells. It belongs to KENNAMETAL's KENLOC series and carries an RN chip breaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining applications.
This insert is suited for roughing and medium-duty turning of steel (ISO P) and stainless steel (ISO M) workpieces in both job-shop and production environments. The round insert shape provides a full-radius cutting profile, making it effective for profiling passes and contour turning where a continuous edge geometry is required. It accommodates both clamp and pin holding methods, fitting standard RNMG-style toolholders. Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting standard RNMG43-style turning toolholders. Compatible with clamp or pin holding systems. Verify toolholder bore and seating pocket dimensions against ANSI insert code RNMG43 and ISO insert code RNMG120400 before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp or pin is secure before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm) as recommended for this insert geometry.
