The KENNAMETAL 3751492 is a VNMG331FN-style indexable turning insert in grade KCP05, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts in steel and cast iron. It carries a 35-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and an FN chip breaker geometry with a honed cutting edge. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians, this insert seats in KENLOC-compatible toolholders and provides four usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for steel and cast iron applications in roughing and finishing operations. Its multi-use geometry supports turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. The FN chip breaker handles a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for light-to-moderate material removal on ferrous workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. Primary workpiece material codes P and K confirm suitability for steel and cast iron classifications. The insert conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries material grades C3 and C4.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts. Held by clamp and pin method. Compatible with toolholders sized for a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.150-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder seating and pocket condition before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque tool for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use impact tools. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating a new insert, and confirm secure clamping before returning the machine to operation.
