Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 3749447 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT3252MF configuration, coated with a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 CVD coating under the KCP10 manufacturer grade. Designed for screw-on toolholders, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake and positive side clearance. The MF chip breaker geometry targets finishing and medium machining operations. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, an insert length of 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches), and a corner radius of 0.03125 inches, this insert is built for precision metal removal in production turning environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in turning, facing, and boring applications.

This insert is suited for turning steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials in both roughing-to-finishing transitions and dedicated finishing passes. The KCP10 grade provides high wear resistance on steel (P-class) and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous workpieces (N-class). The chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping and extends edge life during continuous and interrupted cuts. Typical applications include external turning, internal boring, and facing on CNC lathes in job shop and production environments.

Key Features

  • KCP10 multilayer CVD coating (TiCN and Al2O3) for high wear resistance on steel and non-ferrous materials
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape with positive rake for reduced cutting forces during finishing cuts
  • MF chip breaker geometry optimized for finishing and medium machining operations
  • Two cutting edges per insert for extended tooling economy
  • Screw-on insert holding method compatible with standard CPMT-style toolholders
  • Multi-use design supports turning, facing, and boring on a single insert style

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for screw-on CPMT-style toolholders accepting CPMT3252 geometry. Conforms to ANSI insert code CPMT3252 and ISO insert code CPMT09T308.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the correct torque driver and screw size specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the screw-on insert - overtightening the clamping screw can fracture the insert body. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before installation to ensure proper seating and runout.
