The KENNAMETAL 3749401 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe applications. Cataloged under industry standard number TCMT2151LF, it carries the KCP10 manufacturer grade and features a multilayer CVD coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 for wear resistance and thermal stability. The triangular insert body provides three usable cutting edges, a 60-degree included angle, and a positive rake geometry with a 5-degree rake angle. A honed cutting edge style reduces micro-chipping on entry. Insert length is 11 millimeters (0.4331 inches), with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. This insert is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The KENNAMETAL 3749401 is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, corresponding to ISO material codes P and K. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). The screw-on holding method secures the insert in compatible TCMT-style toolholders. This insert is a neutral-hand design, making it usable in both left- and right-hand setups without a dedicated handed toolholder.
Designed for use in screw-on TCMT-style toolholders. Compatible with turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) workpieces. Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards for the TCMT2151 insert size code.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the insert clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate - do not overtighten by hand or with standard hex keys without a torque-limiting tool. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
