The KENNAMETAL 3749382 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CPMT2152LF in the KCP10 grade, designed for high-wear-resistance machining of steel and cast iron as well as moderate-wear applications on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The insert carries a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating classified under the CVD coating family. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, a positive side clearance, and a honed cutting edge. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0313 inches, this insert is sized for finishing and light machining operations. It is held by a screw-on method and provides two usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers in production and job-shop environments. The LF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining passes, making it a practical choice when surface finish and dimensional accuracy are the priority. The KCP10 grade targets steel workpieces in ISO P applications where high wear resistance is required, and also covers ISO N materials such as aluminum alloys and non-ferrous metals where a balance of toughness and wear resistance is needed. Machinists and CNC operators working in tight-tolerance turning applications will find this geometry and grade combination well matched to low-depth finish passes.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting CPMT2152 inserts per ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with toolholders designated for C-style 80-degree diamond inserts with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and screw-on clamping. Verify toolholder insert pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all motion is locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and flat in the pocket before tightening the clamping screw; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change to maintain runout and surface finish quality.
