The KENNAMETAL 3749357 is a VNMG331FF KCP10 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision finishing operations on steel and cast iron. Coated with a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 CVD process (MTCVD), this insert delivers high wear resistance on steel (P) workpieces and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous (N) materials. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, efficient cutting geometry. With a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and a negative rake and side clearance geometry, it is suited for light, accurate finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists install this insert in KENLOC-style toolholders across production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications. It carries a negative side clearance with a tolerance code of M and clearance code of N, placing it squarely in standard VNMG toolholder systems. The FF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron, consistent with P and N material group classifications. The insert meets both ANSI and ISO standards, carrying ANSI insert code VNMG331 and ISO insert code VNMG160404. It is clamp and pin held, making it compatible with standard negative-rake VNMG turning toolholders.
Designed as a standard VNMG-style replacement or direct-fit insert for negative-rake KENLOC toolholders and other ANSI/ISO-compliant VNMG turning toolholder systems accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC turning technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the toolholder secured before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping force without over-torquing. Verify insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
