The KENNAMETAL 3749298 is a CCMT2151UF screw-on turning insert in grade KCP10, designed for precision finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and features a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3, delivering high wear resistance on steel and cast iron and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a positive rake angle of 5 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. Insert length is 6.45 mm (0.2539 inches), inscribed circle is 0.25 inches, and corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). Two cutting edges are available per insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring applications in both steel and cast iron workpieces as well as aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The UF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts with a maximum depth of cut of 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for light, precision passes requiring tight surface finish tolerances. It is used by machinists and CNC operators in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments. The screw-on holding method ensures repeatable seating in compatible CCMT-style toolholders.
Designed for use in screw-on CCMT-style turning toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch inscribed circle insert. Conforms to ANSI insert code CCMT2151 and ISO insert code CCMT060204. Suitable for primary workpiece materials coded P (steel and cast iron) and N (aluminum and non-ferrous). Material grades C3 and C7 apply.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key for the clamping screw and do not overtighten, as insert cracking can result. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before mounting to ensure proper contact and dimensional repeatability.
