The KENNAMETAL 3748377 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG431FW geometry, grade KCP05, belonging to the KENLOC series. It features a multilayer MTCVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3, engineered for high wear resistance on steel and moderate wear resistance with toughness on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, a negative rake and negative side clearance, and a wiper finishing chip breaker (FW). With 4 usable cutting edges and an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches, it suits precise finishing passes where tight surface finish tolerances are required. Installation is performed by licensed or experienced machinists on CNC and manual lathes.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations in production and job-shop environments. Its primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron, with secondary applicability to aluminum and non-ferrous alloys. The wiper edge geometry enables faster feed rates while maintaining fine surface finishes, making it well suited to high-volume finishing cycles on CNC turning centers. The KENLOC holding system accepts both clamp and pin insert-holding methods, providing secure seating under interrupted and continuous cuts alike.
Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting CNMG431 (ANSI) or CNMG120404 (ISO) inserts with clamp or pin holding. Meets ANSI and ISO insert standards. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the appropriate KENLOC clamp or pin-retention hardware specified for the toolholder; ensure the insert seat and pocket are clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Torque clamping screws only to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout and edge condition before resuming cutting operations.
