The KENNAMETAL 3748375 is a VNMG331FF turning insert in grade KCP05, designed for high-precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3, applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and cast iron workpieces. The 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape provides a sharp, narrow geometry suited to finishing passes. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard KENLOC-style toolholders and is suitable for turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is rated for finishing operations on steel (P-grade) with high wear resistance, and on aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N-grade) with moderate to high toughness. It is also applicable to cast iron (K-grade secondary). The FF chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts, with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). The honed cutting edge style and negative rake angle support controlled chip formation and extended tool life during light, consistent passes. This insert is a multi-use tool compatible with turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring applications on a variety of workpiece materials.
Conforms to ANSI insert code VNMG331 and ISO insert code VNMG160404. Designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders accepting VNMG-style inserts with clamp or pin retention. Suitable for ANSI and ISO compliant turning systems.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully and evenly in the pocket before tightening the clamp or pin to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris prior to seating each new edge.
