The KENNAMETAL 3746138 is a TPMT2151UF triangular turning insert in the KCP05 carbide grade, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, delivering high wear resistance on steel and cast iron workpieces. The insert measures 11.00 mm (0.4331 inches) in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0156-inch (1/64-inch) corner radius, and a 0.0938-inch (3/32-inch) thickness. With three cutting edges, a positive rake angle of 5 degrees, and a UF chip breaker geometry, this insert is engineered for finishing operations where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required.
This insert is suited for finishing passes in turning, facing, and boring applications on steel and cast iron components. The KCP05 grade provides high wear resistance for steel (P-class) and moderate wear resistance with toughness for aluminum and non-ferrous materials (N-class). It is a screw-on style insert with positive side clearance, intended for use in compatible TPMT-style toolholders on production and job-shop turning centers. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches), making it appropriate for light, precise finishing cuts rather than heavy roughing.
Designed for use in TPMT-style screw-on toolholders accepting a 0.25-inch (1/4-inch) inscribed circle triangular insert with a 0.1102-inch (2.80 mm) hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for direct OEM-style fitment in compatible turning toolholder systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-recommended screw torque procedure for the specific toolholder to avoid insert cracking or improper seating. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert.
