The KENNAMETAL 3744977 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT3252MP geometry with a KCU10 grade designation, featuring an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. Designed for screw-on toolholders, this insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, and a 7-degree relief angle. The cutting edge is honed for consistent performance across roughing and medium machining operations. With 2 cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, it suits high-volume turning, facing, and boring applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this insert on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring operations in both production and job-shop environments. It is well-suited to applications demanding high wear resistance with adequate toughness across P, M, K, N, S, and H workpiece material groups per ISO classification. The chip breaker designation MP indicates performance across roughing and medium machining conditions, making it a versatile choice when operators are cutting stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium and need consistent chip control. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO insert standards, with ANSI code CCMT3252 and ISO code CCMT09T308.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct fitment insert for screw-on CCMT toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, ANSI size code 3252, ISO size code 09T308, with a tolerance code M and clearance code C.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as insert fracture or seat damage can result. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
