The KENNAMETAL 3744976 is a CCMT3251MP-style solid carbide turning insert in grade KCU10 with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating. The insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch honed corner radius. It carries a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle with a positive side clearance. The MP chip breaker geometry is engineered for roughing through medium-depth machining passes. Screw-on holding secures the insert in compatible tool bodies. The cutting edge is honed for edge stability under interrupted and continuous cutting conditions. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians on CNC lathes and boring machines.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum. The KCU10 grade spans a broad workpiece material range, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H, delivering high wear resistance with moderate toughness across these categories. The MP chip breaker handles variable depths of cut up to 0.1249 inches, making it practical for both roughing passes and transitional medium-finish cuts without a tool change. The two available cutting edges per insert extend tool life and reduce per-edge cost in production environments.
Designed for use in screw-on style CCMT tool holders conforming to ANSI insert code CCMT3251 and ISO insert code CCMT09T304. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications across ISO workpiece material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the tool body manufacturer's specified value — do not over-torque, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before mounting to ensure proper seating and edge geometry alignment.
