The KENNAMETAL 3744893 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT3252MP geometry with a KCP25 manufacturer grade. It carries a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN and Al2O3 applied via MTCVD process, providing moderate wear-resistance and toughness suited to steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The insert measures 9.67 mm (0.3808 inches) in length with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, and an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape. It features a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, a positive side clearance, and honed cutting edges. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators on production turning equipment.
The 3744893 is engineered for multi-use metal-cutting applications including turning, facing, and boring. The MP chip breaker geometry is rated for roughing and medium machining operations on steel and cast iron workpieces, with extended capability on aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It mounts via screw-on holding method, consistent with standard CPMT-style toolholders. The 80-degree diamond shape provides two cutting edges per insert, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1268 inches supports aggressive material removal rates while maintaining edge integrity under moderate to heavy loads.
Designed as a screw-on CPMT-style replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code CPMT3252 and ISO insert code CPMT09T308, for use in compatible CPMT toolholders rated for 3/8-inch inscribed circle inserts.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the screw-on clamp - refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications for fastener torque. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
