Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 3744884 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT2151MP configuration, grade KCP25, featuring a multilayer MTCVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 coating. It carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a positive rake angle of 12 degrees and a positive side clearance, making it well suited for stable cutting with controlled chip flow. The inscribed circle measures 0.25 inches, insert length is 0.2539 inches (6.45 mm), and the corner radius is 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches). Two cutting edges are available per insert. This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations and is installed by machinists and CNC operators on screw-on style toolholders.

This insert targets steel and cast iron as primary workpiece materials, with the KCP25 grade offering moderate wear resistance and toughness for both P (steel) and N (aluminum and non-ferrous) material categories. The MP chip breaker geometry is rated for roughing and medium machining operations. It conforms to ANSI insert code CCMT2151 and ISO insert code CCMT060204, making it compatible with standard CCMT screw-on toolholder pockets found in general turning and boring applications across CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments.

Key Features

  • KCP25 grade with multilayer MTCVD TiCN and Al2O3 coating for wear resistance and toughness on steel and cast iron
  • 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with positive rake and positive side clearance for efficient chip evacuation
  • MP chip breaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining operations
  • Screw-on insert holding method with 2 usable cutting edges per insert
  • Maximum depth of cut up to 0.0845 inches
  • Honed cutting edge style for consistent edge integrity
  • Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for broad toolholder compatibility

Compatibility

Conforms to ANSI insert code CCMT2151 and ISO insert code CCMT060204. Designed for use in screw-on CCMT-style toolholders compatible with the 2151 insert size code. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel and cast iron workpieces.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate screw-on clamping screw and torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before installation and confirm proper seating before resuming cuts.
