The KENNAMETAL 3660023 is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert conforming to industry standard designation VBGW331FST in grade KD1425. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a flat-top chip breaker geometry with a positive rake angle. The insert is single-tipped, bright and uncoated, and uses a screw-on holding method. At 0.02 pounds, it is a compact, precision-ground insert designed for high wear-resistance applications on aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials. CNC machinists and toolroom operators working with non-ferrous metals rely on this insert for demanding turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
This insert is suited for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. It is engineered for aluminum and non-ferrous metals (material group N), including materials classified under grades N05 and N10. Its sharp cutting edge style and positive side clearance support clean, low-force cuts on soft, gummy, or abrasive non-ferrous materials. The maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.0492 inches). It is appropriate for light to moderate material removal where surface finish and tool life on non-ferrous workpieces are the primary concerns.
Designed for use in screw-on style VBGW toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Conforms to ANSI insert code VBGW331 and ISO insert code VBGW160404. Intended for machining aluminum and non-ferrous metals in material grades N05 and N10.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine is fully powered down and the spindle is locked. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket and tighten the retaining screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper insert seating and dimensional accuracy.
