The KENNAMETAL 3659999 is a PCD (polycrystalline diamond) turning insert manufactured to ANSI insert code CPGW21505 and ISO insert code CPGW060202. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a flat-top chip breaker, and a positive rake angle with positive side clearance. The insert carries the KD1425 manufacturer grade, which is rated for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness in non-ferrous and aluminum applications. It is single tipped, uncoated (bright finish), and mounts via screw-on holding method. Insert length is 6.45 mm (0.2539 inches) with an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in production turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is designed for machining non-ferrous metals, including aluminum and other N-category workpiece materials where sharp cutting edges and high wear resistance are critical. The flat-top geometry and sharp cutting edge style make it well suited for finishing passes and high-speed turning on non-ferrous components. It is applicable in turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The screw-on mounting style provides secure, repeatable insert indexing in compatible toolholders. Maximum depth of cut is 1.25 mm (0.050 inches).
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting CPGW21505 or ISO CPGW060202 inserts. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Verify toolholder compatibility using the ANSI insert code CPGW21505 and hole diameter of 2.80 mm (0.1102 inches) before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque screwdriver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw — do not overtighten, as PCD inserts are brittle and susceptible to edge chipping from improper seating. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris or damage before installing the insert.
