The KENNAMETAL 3659968 is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert identified by industry standard number CPGW21505FST in grade KD1400. This single-tipped, screw-on insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle and positive side clearance, delivering sharp cutting-edge geometry optimized for high-precision material removal. With a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, a 6.45 mm insert length, and a 0.0079-inch corner radius, it is engineered for fine-tolerance turning, facing, and boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians specify this insert for demanding production environments where tool life and surface finish consistency are critical.
This PCD insert is suited for high-speed turning, facing, and boring of non-ferrous metals and select superalloys on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its flat-top chip breaker geometry and uncoated bright finish make it particularly effective in aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where built-up edge must be minimized. The KD1400 grade provides high wear resistance in both N-class (aluminum and non-ferrous) and S-class (special and superalloy) material categories, making it versatile across multiple workpiece families in production turning environments.
Designed for use in screw-on style toolholders accepting CPGW-geometry inserts with a 0.1102-inch (2.80 mm) hole diameter and a 0.25-inch inscribed circle. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating before use.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC tooling technicians or machining professionals. Power down and de-energize the machine tool completely before indexing or replacing any insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the screw-on insert to avoid over-torquing the clamping screw. PCD inserts are extremely hard and brittle at the cutting edge — handle carefully to prevent chipping prior to installation.
