The KENNAMETAL 3648588 is a single-tipped polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert in the TPG432F geometry, manufactured under the KENDEX series. It carries the KD1425 grade designation, which is optimized for high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness in non-ferrous and aluminum machining applications. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.03125 inch corner radius, and a flat top chip breaker with a positive rake and positive side clearance. At 22 mm (0.8661 inch) in length and 0.1875 inch in thickness, it is designed for light to moderate material removal in precision turning, facing, and boring operations. Installation and tool setup are performed by machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, and boring of non-ferrous metals, with aluminum as the primary workpiece material. The KD1425 PCD grade targets applications requiring high wear resistance where ferrous metals, hardened steels, and abrasive composites are not involved. The sharp cutting edge style and positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces and minimize built-up edge, making this insert well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on aluminum alloys, copper alloys, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials classified under ISO material group N. It is a single-use, single-tipped insert held in place by a clamp-style toolholder.
Designed for use in clamp-style toolholders accepting TPG-style triangular inserts with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and clearance code P. Conforms to ANSI insert code TPG432 and ISO insert code TPG220408. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and clamp hardware before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp; do not use excessive clamping force, as PCD inserts are brittle and susceptible to edge chipping from mechanical shock. PCD inserts are not suitable for ferrous workpiece materials; confirm workpiece material compatibility before use.
