The KENNAMETAL 3640679 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. It measures 4.50 mm in diameter with a 140-degree split point and a TiAlN coating designed to extend tool life in abrasive, heat-generating applications. The overall length is 66.00 mm with a flute length of 24.00 mm, a 6.00 mm straight cylindrical shank, and a maximum drilling depth of 17.00 mm. Web thinning with a parallel web configuration reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation. Coolant-through capability supports consistent performance in deep-hole or high-cycle operations. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance technicians working with tight-tolerance bores.
This drill bit is optimized for cutting high-temperature alloys and stainless steel, where tool wear and heat buildup are primary concerns. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry support controlled chip flow in short-hole applications. It conforms to DIN 6537K geometry standards and falls within the B291-YPL series. Typical applications include precision component drilling on CNC machining centers and drill presses where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses accepting a 6.00 mm straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are high-temperature alloys and stainless steel, per manufacturer specification for the B291-YPL series.
This tool is installed and changed by machinists or tooling technicians following standard lockout and spindle-stop procedures before any tool change. Use a properly sized collet or drill chuck rated for the 6.00 mm shank diameter to ensure runout is within acceptable limits. Coolant-through connection should be verified at the spindle interface before operation. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated maximum drilling depth of 17.00 mm per cycle without retracting to clear chips.
