The KENNAMETAL 3639762 is a SCMT3252MP KCP25-grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in CNC and manual lathe operations. Coated with a multilayer TiCN and Al2O3 finish via MTCVD (medium-temperature CVD) process, this insert delivers moderate wear resistance combined with solid toughness across a range of workpiece materials. The 90-degree square insert geometry features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/32-inch corner radius, a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, and a honed cutting edge style. It is held in place via a screw-on mounting method and is suited for roughing and medium machining passes. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops or production environments are the primary users.
This insert is engineered for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The MP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining, handling variable depths of cut and interrupted or continuous cuts in both P-category steels and N-category non-ferrous workpieces. Maximum depth of cut is 0.0492 inches (1.25 mm). With four usable cutting edges per insert, it offers extended service life per unit consumed, making it well-suited for high-volume production turning environments.
Designed as a screw-on SCMT-style turning insert compatible with toolholders accepting SCMT3252 geometry per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for use in toolholder systems rated for positive-rake, square-insert configurations with 3/8-inch inscribed circle inserts.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque - do not overtighten, as this can crack the carbide insert body. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert.
