The KENNAMETAL 3639213 is a diamond-tipped grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for precision grooving and turning operations on non-ferrous and abrasive materials. This uncoated insert carries the KD1425 grade designation, which indicates a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) composition suited for high-wear applications. It delivers a cutting width of 1.58 mm (0.0620 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm (0.0940 inches). The insert uses a clamp-style holding method and features an EST chip breaker geometry. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders for production grooving work.
This insert is intended for use in grooving, parting, and turning applications where tight dimensional control and long tool life are required. The NG insert style and 3062 insert size make it a metric-measurement component suited for shop environments running metric programs. Its right-hand cutting orientation and 55-degree included angle support standard groove profiles. Typical applications include grooving of aluminum alloys, copper, composites, and other non-ferrous or highly abrasive workpiece materials where diamond-grade tooling provides measurable performance advantages over carbide.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept the NG insert style in size 3062. Confirm toolholder compatibility by insert style, size, and clamp type before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and all spindle motion stopped before changing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp key or torx driver specified for the Top Notch toolholder to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Handle diamond-tipped inserts with care, as the cutting edge is brittle and susceptible to chipping from impact or improper seating.
