The KENNAMETAL 3608047 is a ceramic turning insert designed for high-speed material removal on superalloys and titanium. It carries the industry standard designation CNGA643T0820 and belongs to the KENLOC series. The insert features a whiskered ceramic substrate (alumina SiC) in an uncoated, bright finish and is ground to a diamond 80-degree shape with a T-land cutting edge and flat-top chip breaker geometry. With a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, a 1/4-inch thickness, and a 3/64-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard CNGA-style toolholders and is suited for roughing to finishing passes where heat and wear resistance are critical. It is installed and used by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians working on aerospace and high-temperature alloy components.
This insert is applied in turning, facing, and boring operations on superalloys and titanium workpieces. The whiskered ceramic grade KY4300 performs best at elevated cutting speeds where carbide grades lose their edge. This insert is installed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians using the appropriate KENLOC clamp and pin holding method. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before installing a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications for the specific holder being used.
