The KENNAMETAL 3557109 is a left-hand indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the KGME toolholder style, it accepts indexable grooving inserts secured by a screw-clamp holding method, providing repeatable edge location and secure insert retention during aggressive cutoff and grooving passes. The shank measures 1.0 x 1.0 inch (25.4 x 25.4 mm) square, with an overall length of 6.0 inches (152.4 mm) and a shank length of 4.7 inches (119.38 mm). It belongs to the Kennametal Series A4 grooving system. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this toolholder.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cutoff applications in both job-shop and production turning environments. The left-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for specific spindle-direction and approach requirements common in CNC turning setups. The 1.0-inch square shank fits standard tool blocks and turret stations on lathes that accommodate that shank size. No coolant-through capability is present, making it appropriate for applications where flood or mist coolant is supplied externally. The KGME style is part of the Kennametal Series A4 grooving platform.
Designed as an OEM-style external grooving and cutoff toolholder for CNC lathes and turning centers accepting a 1.0 x 1.0 inch square shank. Compatible with Kennametal Series A4 indexable grooving inserts. Refer to the Kennametal insert selection guide to confirm insert geometry and grade for the target material and groove width.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down the machine and confirm the spindle is fully stopped before mounting or removing the toolholder from the turret. Seat the shank fully in the tool block and torque all clamping screws to the machine manufacturer's specification. Follow the insert manufacturer's recommended screw torque for the KGME clamp screw to avoid insert movement or clamp damage during cutting.
