The KENNAMETAL 3397274 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the manufacturer grade KC5025 with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, this insert delivers heat and wear resistance suited for interrupted cuts and challenging workpiece materials. It features a 2.5 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 5.08 mm. The insert style is NGD, belonging to the Top Notch series, and is configured for left-hand cutting. A corner radius of 0.19 mm and a K-style chip breaker contribute to controlled chip evacuation during grooving passes. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician using a compatible Top Notch clamp-style toolholder.
This insert is intended for use in metalcutting applications where controlled grooving, undercutting, or parting is required. The metric sizing — insert size 2M250 — fits Top Notch series toolholders designed for that insert class. The KC5025 grade is suited for a broad range of workpiece material grades, including C2 and C6 material classifications. This is a single-insert package with a minimum order quantity of 5 units, making it appropriate for shop stock replenishment or toolcrib inventory for production turning environments.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders that accept the NGD insert style in size 2M250. Compatible with material grades C2 and C6 workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and all spindle motion stopped before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the Top Notch toolholder pocket and engage the clamp per the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature failure. Dispose of worn inserts according to local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
