The KENNAMETAL 3383295 is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert with ANSI code CPGW2151S0415C and manufacturer grade KB1345. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 1/4-inch (0.2500-inch) inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The insert is uncoated (bright finish) with a positive side clearance and an 11-degree relief angle. Insert thickness is 3/32 inch (0.0938 inch). KB1345 is a cast iron grade engineered for moderate wear-resistance and toughness through high toughness applications. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists working with hard, abrasive ferrous workpiece materials.
This PCBN turning insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning operations on cast iron and similarly hard ferrous materials where CBN tooling outperforms conventional carbide. The CPGW style with screw holding method fits standard toolholders accepting CPGW geometry inserts. The W chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation in moderate to high-toughness cutting conditions. Typical applications include precision lathe and CNC turning operations in metalworking, automotive component production, and industrial machining environments where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting CPGW-style turning inserts with an 80-degree diamond geometry and screw clamping. ANSI insert code CPGW21.51; ISO insert code CPGW060204. Primary workpiece material code K (cast iron). Industry standard number RCGV35E.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not over-tighten, as PCBN substrates are brittle and can fracture under improper clamping. Verify insert seating is flush and free of chips or debris in the pocket before resuming cutting operations.
