The KENNAMETAL 3381640 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for use in KSEM-series modular drill bodies. It features a 1.0630-inch (27.00 mm) cutting diameter, a 140-degree drill point angle, and an HPL insert geometry optimized for high-performance drilling. The grade KCMS15 fine-grain carbide substrate is PVD-coated with AlTiN for thermal resistance and wear life. This tip is a clamp-held insert with a helical flute design and regular spiral, making it suited for production drilling operations where consistent hole quality and tool longevity are priorities. It is installed and changed by machinists and tooling technicians in CNC and manual drilling environments.
This replaceable tip is intended for drilling applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium — covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. Typical use cases include standard through-hole drilling, drilling on inclined exit surfaces, and stacked-plate drilling. The two-flute, two-margin design supports accurate hole geometry across a range of workpiece materials. The KSEM series platform is a modular system where the tip seats into a compatible drill body shank, allowing quick tip changes without removing the body from the spindle.
Designed for use with KSEM-series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size 6. ISO number KSEM2700HPLM. Verify seat size and series compatibility with the specific drill body before ordering.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the drill body and insert seat are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the tip. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by KENNAMETAL for the KSEM seat size 6 interface — do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Confirm spindle is fully stopped and machine is in a safe, locked-out state before tip removal or replacement.
