The KENNAMETAL 3381189 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert in the KSEM series, designed for precision drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Identified by ISO number KSEM0938HPL with an HPL insert geometry, this tip measures 15/16 inch (0.9374 inches) in cutting diameter with a 140-degree drill point angle. The AlTiN coating is applied via PVD process, delivering thermal resistance and extended tool life in high-speed cutting. It features a 2-flute helical design with regular spiral and a 12.00 mm flute length, secured to the drill body via a clamp-style insert holding method. This is a replacement tip component, not a complete drill assembly, intended for use in KSEM-compatible drill bodies.
This insert is rated for a broad range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and superalloys and titanium. It is suited for standard drilling operations as well as inclined exit drilling and stacked plate drilling. Typical installation environments include CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and horizontal boring machines in production or job shop settings. The fine grain carbide substrate and KCMS15 manufacturer grade make it well suited for demanding cuts where edge stability is critical.
Designed for use with KSEM-series replaceable tip drill bodies using insert seat size 4. Compatible with workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S as defined by ISO material classification. No coolant-through capability on this tip configuration.
Installation and replacement of KSEM carbide tip inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and de-energized before removing or seating the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping key specified for the KSEM insert seat size 4 body — do not substitute tools that may damage the seating surface. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and runout accuracy.
