The KENNAMETAL 3381185 is a carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. The drill accepts an KSEM0922HPL solid carbide insert tip with an HPL geometry and an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating. It cuts a nominal diameter of 23.42mm (59/64 inch) with a 140-degree included point angle. The two-flute, regular helical spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation. The replaceable tip format reduces tooling cost by allowing insert changes without replacing the full drill body. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users.
This drill is engineered for production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium — corresponding to ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. It is suited for through-hole and blind-hole drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling applications. The KSEM platform and insert seat size 4 are consistent with medium-diameter precision drilling programs in job shop and production environments. The 23.42mm cutting diameter targets tight-tolerance bores where a solid carbide tip provides accuracy and edge retention that HSS tools cannot match.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip drill within the KSEM series platform using insert seat size 4. The replaceable tip is identified by ISO number KSEM0922HPL with manufacturer grade KCMS15 fine-grain carbide substrate.
Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the machine tool builder safety procedures. Before changing the insert tip, confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked-out state per applicable facility lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct Kennametal torque key or clamping tool specified for the KSEM seat size 4 interface — do not substitute with improvised tools, as improper clamping can cause tip ejection and workpiece damage. Verify cutting parameters against the manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the workpiece material grade before running the first hole.
