The KENNAMETAL 3381170 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. It carries the ISO designation KSEM1125HPL and features a 1-1/8 inch (28.58 mm) cutting diameter with a 140-degree drill point angle. The tip is manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide with an AlTiN finish applied via PVD coating, delivering elevated hardness and oxidation resistance at the cutting edge. Two helical flutes with a regular spiral promote chip evacuation during drilling cycles. This drill insert is installed and serviced by machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling operations in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. The HPL insert geometry and KSEM seat size 7 interface are built for interrupted-cut stability, including inclined exit drilling and stacked-plate drilling scenarios. The clamp-style insert holding method ensures secure seating during high-feed passes without coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for applications where external coolant delivery is used.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KENNAMETAL KSEM series drill bodies with seat size 7, accepting the HPL insert geometry in the KSEM1125HPL form factor.
Installation of this replaceable tip is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully stopped and machine power locked out. The insert seat should be cleaned and inspected before seating the new tip to ensure full contact and proper clamping torque as specified by the KSEM toolholder documentation. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material group being machined. External coolant should be directed at the cutting zone when coolant-through is not available.
