Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 3381122 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill in the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole-making in metalworking applications. The tip features an HPL insert geometry with an AlTiN PVD coating and a 140-degree drill point angle, optimizing chip flow and heat resistance during heavy-cycle drilling. At 0.6252 inches (15.88 mm) cutting diameter, this 2-flute, regular-spiral drill is engineered for consistent bore quality in demanding production environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling specialists working in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing.

This drill is suited for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses operating on a wide range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys and titanium (ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S). The KSEM replaceable tip design allows the carbide tip to be swapped at the machine without removing the shank body, reducing downtime in production drilling. Typical applications include through-hole drilling, inclined exit drilling, and stacked plate drilling.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide tip with fine grain substrate and KCMS15 manufacturer grade for edge stability
  • AlTiN PVD coating improves heat and oxidation resistance in high-speed steel and stainless applications
  • HPL insert geometry with 140-degree included angle for self-centering and reduced thrust force
  • 2-flute helical design with regular spiral promotes efficient chip evacuation
  • Clamp-style insert holding method secures tip rigidly at insert seat size 1
  • Compatible with inclined exit and stacked plate drilling operations per listed application codes

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KSEM series drill bodies accepting insert seat size 1 at 0.6252 inches (15.88 mm) cutting diameter. ISO number KSEM0625HPL identifies the tip geometry and seat interface.

Installation Notes

Installation and tip replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per facility safety procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw as specified by the KSEM toolholder system — do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new tip to ensure proper contact and runout. Verify cutting parameters against Kennametal KSEM application data for the specific workpiece material before commencing the cut.
