The KENNAMETAL 3331485 is a solid carbide roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in demanding milling applications. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride), it handles high-heat cutting environments where tool life and edge retention are critical. The 1/2 inch diameter cutter features 4 flutes with a 0.04 inch corner radius, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. It is center-cutting and runs in a right-hand cutting, right-hand flute configuration. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in CNC milling machines and machining centers for roughing passes on ferrous and hardened materials.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in both production and job-shop environments. The stub-length configuration provides increased rigidity, making it effective for slotting, pocketing, and peripheral milling where chatter and deflection are concerns. The AlTiN coating improves performance in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions and extends tool life when machining steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The 1/2 inch shank diameter fits standard ER and end mill holders used across most CNC milling platforms.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2 inch end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and hydraulic or shrink-fit toolholders on CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated to the recommended gauge-line depth in the holder and that holder set screws or collet nuts are torqued according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and corner radius for chips or wear before each use; damaged carbide tooling should not be run.
