The KENNAMETAL 3331081 is a right-hand indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built to the L-STFP toolholder style, it accepts TP-series triangular inserts held by a screw-clamp method. The shank diameter is 3/8 inches and the overall length is 6.059 inches. Minimum bore diameter is 0.48 inches with a maximum bore depth of 0.91 inches. The body is constructed from heavy metal, which provides high vibration damping in small-bore applications. Through-coolant capability is standard, with a coolant hole diameter of 0.125 inches. Machinists and tool-room operators working on tight-tolerance internal features will find this bar suited for finish and semi-finish cuts.
This boring bar is intended for small-bore internal machining in precision turning applications. The 0.48-inch minimum bore diameter makes it appropriate for small-diameter features common in aerospace, hydraulic component, and general machining work. Through-coolant delivery directs cutting fluid to the insert tip, helping to evacuate chips and manage heat in deep or confined bores. The neutral rake geometry and 0-degree rake angle support stable cutting across a range of workpiece materials. This tool is sold individually and is not configured as a multi-use tool.
Designed to accept TP-series triangular indexable inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch insert thickness, consistent with the L-STFP insert family specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 3/8-inch shank in a qualified boring bar holder or turret station, ensuring the shank is fully supported to the recommended minimum clamping depth. Verify coolant passages are clear and aligned before engaging the through-coolant supply. Always index or replace the insert with the machine powered down and the spindle locked.
