The KENNAMETAL 3331046 is a right-hand indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and bore finishing operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Built to the L-SCLP toolholder style, it accepts CP-style inserts secured by screw clamping for positive, repeatable positioning. The shank diameter is 3/4 inches and the overall length (OAL) is 7.96 inches. Minimum bore diameter is 0.93 inches and maximum bore depth is 1.3 inches. The tool is constructed from heavy metal, which provides high vibration damping in deep or interrupted cuts. Through-coolant capability directs cutting fluid directly to the cutting zone, supporting longer insert life and better chip evacuation at elevated cutting speeds.
This boring bar is suited for precision internal diameter work in job shops, production machining, and toolroom environments. The -5 degree lead angle geometry and neutral rake (0 degrees) make it appropriate for general-purpose boring in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials. The through-coolant feature is particularly effective in blind-bore applications where chip packing is a concern. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in high-production or close-tolerance environments will find the screw-clamp insert retention reliable under continuous cutting loads.
Designed for use with CP.. series (L-SCLP style) indexable inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 5/32 inch thickness. Consult insert manufacturer cross-references to confirm specific grade and geometry selection for the target workpiece material.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in an appropriate lockout state before mounting or removing the boring bar. Confirm shank-to-toolholder bore fit and torque the clamping screws to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Connect the through-coolant supply line before running and verify coolant flow at the insert pocket prior to cutting to prevent thermal shock at the cutting edge.
