The KENNAMETAL 3331000 is a right-hand indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and bore finishing operations on CNC lathes and boring machines. Built from heavy metal for rigidity and vibration damping, it accepts CP-style inserts held by screw-clamp retention with a neutral rake angle of 0 degrees. The bar features through-coolant capability via a 0.156-inch coolant hole, supporting both flood and high-pressure coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone. With a 0.6-inch minimum bore diameter and a maximum bore depth of 0.93 inches, it is suited for tight-bore, short-reach applications where tool rigidity and accurate insert positioning are critical.
This boring bar is used in precision machining environments including job shops, production turning cells, and toolroom applications. The L-SCFP toolholder style positions the insert for reliable, repeatable cuts in small-diameter bores. A 1/2-inch shank diameter makes it compatible with standard boring bar holders and quick-change tooling systems found on most CNC and manual lathes. Machinists and toolroom operators working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find the neutral rake geometry and through-coolant feature useful for maintaining dimensional accuracy and tool life in finish boring passes.
Designed for use with CP-style indexable inserts with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and 3/32-inch insert thickness. Verify insert grade and geometry selection based on workpiece material and cutting parameters.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 1/2-inch shank firmly in the boring bar holder to the depth recommended by the tooling system manufacturer, ensuring overhang is minimized to maintain rigidity. Confirm through-coolant connections are properly sealed before pressurizing the coolant circuit. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting, indexing, or replacing inserts.
