The KENNAMETAL 3051863 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Manufactured to the ISO designation EDPT140404PDERHD and ANSI code EP1404EHD, this parallelogram-style insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that promotes heat resistance and extended tool life at the cutting edge. It carries a positive rake geometry with a 15-degree relief angle and a honed cutting edge style, producing clean, controlled cuts with reduced cutting forces. The insert is screw-held, single-sided, and right-hand oriented, sized at 0.6876 inches in length, 0.3300 inches wide, and 0.1770 inches thick. It is sold individually and requires a minimum order of 5 units.
This insert is intended for use in milling operations targeting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, covering material grade classifications C5, C6, and C7 (ISO material codes P, M, and S). The KC725M grade and HD chip breaker make it well-suited for medium to roughing cuts where chip control and edge security are critical. It is compatible with the Mill 1-14 cutter series and follows the EDPT series platform. Machining professionals and tooling specialists working in production shops, job shops, or aerospace component manufacturing will find this insert appropriate for its targeted material range.
Compatible with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. Insert follows the EDPT series platform and conforms to ANSI and ISO standards. Verify cutter body specifications against insert size code 1404 before installation.
Installation of milling inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the milling spindle is fully powered down and locked out before replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
