The KENNAMETAL 3022343 is a DFR-series indexable insert drill designed for general-purpose hole-making operations in metal cutting applications. The body is machined from steel and accepts two DFR-style inserts, allowing worn cutting edges to be replaced without removing the tool body from the machine. The drill produces holes up to 0.6559 inches in diameter at a maximum depth of 2.62 inches, achieving a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The 1-inch Weldon flat and flange shank provides positive drive and accurate seating in the spindle. Coolant-through capability is standard, with axial concentric entry, supporting both internal coolant delivery and chip evacuation at depth.
This drill body is suited for CNC machining centers and drill presses in job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments. It is most commonly installed by machinists and tooling setup technicians in production and maintenance machine shops. The DFR series is a general-purpose platform appropriate for a wide range of workpiece materials where indexable insert tooling is preferred over solid carbide or HSS alternatives. The 4xD reach makes it practical for applications where through-hole or moderate-depth blind-hole drilling is required without resorting to extended-reach tooling.
Designed for use with DFR-style indexable inserts, specifically compatible insert size code 0302 (DFR0302). Insert lock screw is M2.2-0.45x5.2 T7. Compatible drill style is DFR. No additional specific machine or system compatibility data was provided in the product input.
Installation and insert indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Confirm shank-to-spindle interface fitment and torque the retention hardware according to the machine tool manufacturer specifications before operation. Verify coolant passage connections at the shank end before resuming coolant-through operation. Do not exceed the rated maximum drill depth or diameter stated for this tool body.
