The KENNAMETAL 2984027 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the A4R0200M0GMP designation, indicating an A4-series style with a neutral hand orientation, GMP chip breaker geometry, and a 2 mm cutting width. The KC5025 grade features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted cuts and continuous grooving in steel, stainless, and cast iron. Maximum depth of cut is 1.7 mm. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces and supports clean chip evacuation. Installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for metric-dimensioned turning applications where precise groove width and controlled depth are required. The A4 series is commonly used in external grooving toolholders designed for small-to-medium diameter workpieces. The 2 mm cutting width and 1.7 mm maximum depth of cut make it appropriate for shallow groove profiles, undercuts, and snap-ring grooves on turned components. The GMP chip breaker geometry supports chip control across a range of feed rates and materials. This is a single-use, non-indexable insert with no multi-use designation.
Designed for use in KENNAMETAL A4-series external grooving toolholders compatible with A4R insert style and 0200M0 insert size. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before installation, as contamination can affect insert seating and groove accuracy. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 1.7 mm to avoid insert fracture or toolholder damage.
