The KENNAMETAL 2984015 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Carrying the G200GMP designation, it features a 2 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 2 mm, and a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process. The KC5010 grade delivers wear resistance suited to a broad range of workpiece materials including steel and cast iron. The GMP chip breaker geometry promotes positive chip control during interrupted or continuous grooving cuts. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments.
The 2984015 is suited for grooving applications on lathes and turning centers where tight dimensional tolerances and controlled chip evacuation are required. Its neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard grooving toolholders in the A4 series. The positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces, making it appropriate for finish grooving on both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The 0.20 mm corner radius supports clean groove wall definition without excessive stress concentration at the insert tip.
Designed as a replacement grooving insert for A4 series grooving toolholders accepting G-style inserts with a 200 insert size designation. Consult your toolholder documentation to confirm seat geometry and clamping compatibility before installation.
Grooving inserts should be installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures in place. Ensure the toolholder seat and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Apply recommended torque to the clamping screw using a calibrated torx or hex key per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect insert seating and clamping integrity before resuming cutting operations.
