The KENNAMETAL 2983279 is a solid carbide milling insert in the EDCT series, designed for high-performance material removal in non-ferrous metal applications. It carries the ISO designation EDCT140408PDFRLDJ and ANSI code EC1408FLDJ, and is manufactured in grade KC410M with a titanium diboride (TiB2) PVD coating. The parallelogram insert shape features a 70-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry, and a sharp cutting edge style with an LD chip breaker. With a 15-degree relief angle and two cutting edges per insert, this tool is built for efficient, clean cuts on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for non-ferrous metal milling operations in both production and job-shop environments. It is compatible with the Kennametal Mill 1-14 cutter series and is held in place by screw-type insert retention. The right-hand cutting orientation suits standard right-hand milling setups. Single-sided construction means the insert is indexed when the active edge is worn, with two usable cutting edges total per insert. This makes it appropriate for precision finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge sharpness and coating integrity are critical to surface finish quality.
Designed for use with the Kennametal Mill 1-14 cutter series. Insert size code 1408, ISO code EDCT140408PDFRLDJ, ANSI code EC1408FLDJ. Verify cutter body compatibility with the EDCT series seating geometry before installation.
This insert is installed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the screw-mount retention system and follow the cutter body manufacturer's seating procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for debris or damage before installing a new insert to ensure proper edge presentation and runout.
