The KENNAMETAL 2980530 is a solid carbide milling insert with manufacturer ISO code EDPT140408PDSRGD and grade KC520M, designed for indexable milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. The insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiAlN coating applied to a solid carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and wear performance during milling of cast iron workpieces. It carries a parallelogram shape with a 70-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry, a chamfered and honed cutting edge style, and a GD chip breaker configuration. Two cutting edges are available per insert. The insert is secured by screw-style clamping and is compatible with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. It weighs approximately 0.011 pounds.
This insert is intended for right-hand milling operations primarily targeting cast iron materials, classified under material grade C1 and C2 and ISO primary workpiece material code K. It is used in production and job-shop machining environments where consistent chip control and edge integrity are required when cutting cast iron components. The GD chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in these applications. The insert fits within the EDPT series and is identified by ANSI code EP1408SGD. It is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Designed for use with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. Identified by ISO code EDPT140408PDSRGD and ANSI code EP1408SGD. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for the EDPT series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before replacing inserts, ensure the milling machine is fully powered down and the spindle is locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key driver as specified by the cutter body manufacturer to seat the screw-mount clamp without damaging the insert pocket. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
