The KENNAMETAL 2976495 is a right-hand indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the A4SM toolholder style, it accepts A4..02.. series inserts secured by a clamp-style insert holding method. The shank measures 5/8 inch by 5/8 inch (0.625 inches square) with a shank length of 3.819 inches and an overall length of 5.0 inches. Minimum groove width is 0.079 inches and maximum depth of cut reaches 0.55 inches (14 mm). Machinists and toolroom technicians install this holder in production turning applications where precise groove geometry and repeatable insert indexing are required.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cutoff work on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in both production and job-shop turning environments. The A4SM series platform is a recognized toolholder family used where a compact, rigid clamp-style holder is needed for shallow to moderate groove depths. Installation is typical in CNC turning centers with standard rectangular shank tool posts. No coolant-through capability is present on this holder, so external coolant delivery should be planned accordingly.
Designed for use with A4..02.. series inserts in the A4SM toolholder platform. Insert seat size is 2.0. This holder is an external grooving and cutoff application toolholder; verify that the machine tool post accepts a 5/8 inch square shank before ordering.
This toolholder is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician in a CNC lathe or turning center tool post. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Clamp the shank securely in the tool post to the machine manufacturer's specified clamping torque using appropriate hex keys. Because this holder does not feature coolant-through capability, ensure external coolant is directed to the cutting zone to manage heat and chip evacuation during grooving or cutoff operations.
