The KENNAMETAL 2658412 is a taper length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with TiAlN, this bit delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding production environments. It features a 132-degree point angle, a spiral flute with web-thinning for improved chip evacuation, and coolant-through capability to manage heat at the cutting zone. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.5512 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and metalworking professionals will find this bit appropriate for both CNC and manual drilling operations requiring tight tolerances.
This drill bit is designed for drilling cast iron and steel. The tapered web configuration and web-thinned point reduce entry resistance and centering load, making it well-suited for through-hole and blind-hole work in structural and machined steel components. It conforms to DIN 6537K geometry standards, which specifies taper length drills with straight shanks. The 1/2-inch diameter and 6-inch overall length position it for medium-depth production drilling where a jobber-length bit would be too short and a extra-long bit would introduce deflection.
Designed for use in cast iron and steel machining applications. Fits standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.5512-inch shank diameter. Conforms to DIN 6537K taper length drill geometry.
Installation of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production drilling to prevent premature edge wear. When using the coolant-through feature, confirm that coolant pressure and flow rate are appropriate for the machine spindle before starting the cut.
