The KENNAMETAL 2654238 is a solid carbide milling insert conforming to ISO designation ADPT1505PDERGD, offered in the KC725M manufacturer grade. It carries a tri-layer PVD coating of TiN, TiCN, and TiN, which delivers thermal resistance and edge wear protection during interrupted and continuous milling operations. The insert features a parallelogram shape with an 85-degree included angle, a right-hand cutting orientation, a 15-degree rake angle, and a 15-degree relief angle. The GD chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip flow across a range of feed rates. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators install these inserts in compatible indexable milling toolholders on machining centers and manual mills.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials, aligning with ISO material groups P, M, and S. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and pocketing operations where edge security and coating toughness are required. The KC725M grade is positioned for moderate to aggressive cutting conditions in production machining environments, including aerospace and general metalworking shops running ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys.
Designed for use in ADPT-series indexable milling toolholders that accept size 1505 parallelogram inserts with a screw-clamp holding method and a 0.1732 inch hole diameter. Consult the toolholder manufacturer documentation to confirm seat geometry and screw torque requirements before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Clean the pocket seat and clamping screw threads before seating the insert to prevent improper seating that could cause premature edge failure or workpiece damage. Do not reuse visibly chipped or worn inserts; index to a fresh edge or replace before returning the tool to service.
