The KENNAMETAL 2649363 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built from solid carbide and coated with a multilayer TiAlN finish, it handles demanding applications in cast iron and steel where tool life and dimensional consistency are critical. The 140-degree split point geometry reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. At 2.5984 inches overall length with a 0.9449-inch flute length, this stub-length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-depth drilling operations. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute design promote efficient chip evacuation. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working with ferrous stock are the primary installers of this tooling.
This drill bit is suited for screw machine work, CNC machining centers, and manual drill press operations targeting cast iron and steel workpieces. The stub-length body minimizes overhang for tight-tolerance bores, and the straight cylindrical shank at 0.2362 inches diameter fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. Coolant-through capability supports high-speed production drilling where heat management and chip flushing are required. Maximum drilling depth is 0.6690 inches per the manufacturer specification.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.2362-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel. Part of the KENNAMETAL Series B976 stub-length carbide drill family.
Installation of this tooling should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-setup technicians familiar with carbide cutting tools. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Carbide is brittle — avoid side-loading or using the bit in worn, loose-fitting holders that allow runout. Verify coolant supply lines are clear before engaging coolant-through operation at elevated speeds.
