The KENNAMETAL 2646097 is a carbide replaceable tip drill from the KSEM series, designed for high-productivity hole making in steel and cast iron applications. The solid carbide tip carries a KC7135 grade designation with a PVD-applied TiCN/TiN dual-layer coating that resists wear and extends tool life in demanding ferrous materials. The drill runs a 140-degree point angle with a PC insert geometry and a regular helical spiral, producing consistent entry characteristics and chip evacuation across a cutting diameter of 27.00 mm (1.0630 inches). The replaceable tip design allows the carbide insert to be swapped without scrapping the drill body, reducing tooling cost per hole. This is a shop-floor or field replacement tip for KSEM modular drill bodies and is handled by machinists and CNC operators.
This drill tip is suited for production drilling in ferrous workpiece materials including steel (P-class) and cast iron (K-class), covering ISO material grades P40 and K35. Common applications include general drilling operations and stacked plate drilling where consistent geometry and stable clamping are critical. The KSEM series uses a clamp-style insert holding method with an insert seat size 6. The tip does not include through-coolant capability, so coolant delivery must be applied externally or at the spindle face. Two flutes and two margins provide a balanced cutting action suited to vertical machining centers and horizontal boring mills.
Designed as a replaceable tip insert for KSEM series modular drill bodies, insert seat size 6, as indicated by the ISO number KSEM2700PCM. Verify body seat size and series designation before installation.
Installation is performed by machining professionals familiar with modular drill systems. Ensure the drill body and seat are clean and free of chips or damage before seating the tip. Use the correct torque tool as specified by the drill body manufacturer for the clamp fastener - do not over-tighten or under-tighten the clamping screw. Confirm tip seating and runout with an indicator before commencing production cuts.
