The KENNAMETAL 2599758 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Running the KC5010 grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability suited for interrupted cuts and variable-feed turning. The cutting width is 1.58 mm with a maximum depth of cut of 2.79 mm, making it well matched to shallow- and mid-depth groove profiles. The full-radius corner geometry at 0.79 mm and neutral rake angle help control chip formation and reduce cutting forces. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this insert as part of the Top Notch series tooling system.
This insert is intended for left-hand grooving applications on metal-cutting lathes in both production and job-shop environments. It is classified under material grades C3 and C4, indicating suitability for machining cast iron and nonferrous materials as well as hardened steels, depending on cutting parameters. The NR style and 2031 insert size are compatible with Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept this geometry. Typical applications include OD grooving, undercuts, and snap-ring groove profiles where consistent depth control and surface finish are required.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders that accept the NR2031 insert style and size. Verify toolholder insert pocket specification before ordering to confirm left-hand orientation and insert size compatibility.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure for the Top Notch system. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry, as doing so may cause insert fracture or toolholder damage.
