The KENNAMETAL 2599540 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted cuts and high-speed applications. The NRD insert style has a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.50 inches (12.70 mm). The full-radius corner geometry and neutral rake angle make it well suited for producing clean, consistent groove profiles. Machinists and CNC operators working in production shops install this insert as part of the Top Notch modular tooling system.
This insert is intended for use in grooving applications where controlled chip formation and dimensional repeatability are required. The left-hand orientation suits specific toolholder configurations in the Top Notch series. The KC5010 grade with PVD TiAlN coating is commonly applied to machining of steels and cast irons, falling within material grades C3 and C4. The insert size designation is 4125 with an insert seat size of 4 and an included angle of 55 degrees, making it appropriate for V-style grooving profiles on medium-duty turning setups in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL Top Notch series toolholders accepting insert seat size 4 and NRD-style inserts. Consult the toolholder documentation to confirm left-hand insert seating requirements before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamp screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatability.
