The KENNAMETAL 2599513 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NRP3047 insert style in the Top Notch series, it carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering heat resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. The insert features a 2.39 mm cutting width, a maximum depth of cut of 3.81 mm, and a full corner radius of 1.19 mm. A positive rake angle of 5 degrees promotes free cutting action and reduces cutting forces. This insert is specified in grade KC5010, a PVD-coated carbide grade suited to finishing and semi-finishing cuts.
This insert is intended for left-hand grooving applications on production turning equipment. It fits the Top Notch toolholder system and is sized to the 3047 insert seat. Typical use cases include OD grooving, undercut operations, and parting on small-to-medium diameter workpieces in job shop and production environments. The metric measurement designation makes it a direct fit for metric toolholder setups. Material grade classification is C3 and C4, covering a range of general-purpose and cast-iron turning applications. Machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, automotive, and general machining shops are the primary users.
Designed for use with Top Notch series left-hand grooving toolholders accepting the NRP3047 insert seat. Verify toolholder compatibility with the 3047 insert size and left-hand designation before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out condition. Use the correct torque wrench and insert-clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating the insert. Confirm the insert is fully seated and the clamp is secure before resuming cutting operations.
