The KENNAMETAL 2599510 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and edge hardness for extended tool life in demanding cuts. The insert has a 1.58 mm cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm, with a full-radius corner geometry measuring 0.79 mm. The positive rake angle of 5 degrees reduces cutting forces and is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is configured for right-hand cutting and fits Top Notch series toolholders. It is used in production turning environments including job shops, contract machining, and manufacturing facilities running steel, cast iron, and similar materials within the C3 and C4 material grade classifications. The NRP insert style and 3031 insert size make it a metric-measurement part suited for operations where close-tolerance groove dimensions are required. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Top Notch grooving toolholders as a direct replacement or standard replenishment item.
Designed for use with Top Notch series grooving toolholders accepting the NRP3031 insert style and 3031 insert size. Compatible toolholder references include those designated for NRP3031R/L inserts per manufacturer documentation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully stopped and in an energy-isolated state before insert exchange. The insert seats into the Top Notch toolholder pocket and is secured per the holder manufacturer torque and clamping specifications — do not exceed the holder manufacturer's specified clamp torque. Inspect the pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify correct insert orientation (right-hand) matches the programmed tool path before resuming cuts.
