The KENNAMETAL 2598824 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the NG3062 geometry in the Top Notch series, this insert features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which improves wear resistance and heat tolerance during high-speed cuts. The KC5010 grade targets steel and cast iron applications where edge retention and consistent surface finish are priorities. With a cutting width of 1.58 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 2.39 mm, this insert is suited to close-tolerance grooving where dimensional control matters. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician installs and indexes this insert.
This insert is intended for use in turning and grooving operations on metal workpieces, primarily in production and job-shop environments running CNC or manual lathes equipped with Top Notch-compatible toolholders. The right-hand orientation suits standard approach directions on most turning center configurations. The neutral rake geometry provides balanced cutting action across a range of steel and cast iron workpieces. Material grades C3 and C4 indicate suitability for general machining of cast iron and steel alloys. The 3-degree lead angle and 0.19 mm corner radius support controlled chip flow and reduced notch wear at the depth-of-cut line.
Designed for use with Top Notch series NG-style grooving toolholders. The manufacturer cross-reference number is NG3062R/L. Verify toolholder compatibility with the NG insert seat specification before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping mechanism to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using appropriate hex or Torx keys. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or debris that could affect seating and dimensional accuracy before each use.
